Pharm. D becomes eligible qualification for recruitment of all pharmacy related posts | MoHFW, Govt of India

Pharm. D (DOCTOR OF PHARMACY) becomes eligible for apply/appointment to various posts where D.Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy) or B.Pharma (Bachelor of Pharmacy) or M.Pharm (Master of Pharmacy qualification) qualification is required.

The Central Government, on the recommendations of The Pharmacy Council of India, constituted under Section 3 of Pharmacy Act, 1948 (8 of 1948), decided that a person holding the Pharm. D (DOCTOR OF PHARMACY )qualification being higher qualification shall automatically become eligible for appointment to various posts where a person holding a Diploma in Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy or Master of Pharmacy qualification is eligible to be appointed.

In most of the states in India, Pharm D (DOCTOR OF PHARMACY) are prohibited from applying for the post of pharmacists in government services, both in central and state level.  Now, the Pharm D holders become eligible to apply for the post of pharmacists, thereby they can be promoted to the post of clinical pharmacists in the future. Further, these graduates can apply for the post of the pharmacist in the ESI and other central government health services. Similarly, they will be considered as qualified candidates for the recruitment of pharmacy teacher posts which are reserved for postgraduates (M Pharm).

Advantage:

In a major relief to the Pharm D graduates in the country, the Union Health Ministry has recognized, with effect from July 16 this year, the doctoral pharmacy program, Pharm D, as an eligible qualification for recruitment of all pharmacy related posts where D Pharm, B Pharm and M Pharm are considered as basic qualifications.

The major advantage of the government decision is that the Pharm D degree holders can apply for all those posts wherever D Pharm, B Pharm and M Pharm qualifications are mentioned as eligible requirements.

In the central and state enforcement agencies, the basic educational qualification for the post of drug inspector is a degree in pharmacy. From now on, this area can also be made a professional field of Pharm D holders.
On 16 July 2019, the decision of the government was notified in the government gazette dated by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

D (DOCTOR OF PHARMACY)
