OSSSC Pharmacist Exam Pattern

The official plan of examination states that there shall be a Written Examination for 100 marks. The exam will feature Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ type) conducted in an OMR system. Candidates must note that there shall be a Written Test only.

Total Marks: The exam is conducted in one paper only for a total of 100 marks.
Time Duration: Candidates will have exactly 2 hours to complete the examination.
Negative Marking: Be careful while answering! There shall be negative marking for each wrong answer, and for each wrong answer, 0.25 mark shall be deducted.

OSSSC Pharmacist Syllabus Breakdown

According to the official notification, the standard syllabus and subjects for examination will be as per the Syllabus of Diploma in Pharmacy. While the official document strictly aligns with the Diploma framework, here is a detailed overview of what you can expect in each section to help structure your study plan:

1. Diploma in Pharmacy Subjects

60 Marks

This section forms the core of the exam. Candidates must thoroughly revise standard Diploma in Pharmacy textbooks covering:

Pharmaceutics (I & II): Dosage forms, calculations, compounding, dispensing, and hospital pharmacy.
Pharmacology & Toxicology: Drug mechanisms, adverse effects, classifications, and uses.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry (I & II): Inorganic and organic chemistry applied to pharmaceuticals.
Pharmacognosy: Natural drugs of plant and animal origin.
Biochemistry & Clinical Pathology: Proteins, lipids, and diagnostic tests.
Human Anatomy & Physiology: Basic body systems and structures.
Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence: Pharmacy Act, Drugs & Cosmetics Act, and NDPS Act.

2. Practical Skill-Based Questions

25 Marks

This section is strictly designed to contain questions based on practical skill to assess the real practical skill of the candidates. Expect scenario-based questions related to:

Prescription reading and interpretation.
Drug storage, handling, and labeling.
Dispensing techniques and patient counseling.
Basic first aid and clinical applications.

3. Arithmetic

10 Marks

You will face mathematical questions based on the Arithmetic of HSC Standard. Topics generally include:

Percentages, Profit & Loss.
Ratio & Proportion.
Simple & Compound Interest.
Time, Work, and Distance.

4. English

5 Marks

Language skills will be tested through English of HSC Standard. Focus on:

Basic Grammar (Tenses, Prepositions, Articles).
Active/Passive Voice & Direct/Indirect Speech.
Synonyms, Antonyms, and Sentence Correction.

Note: A single merit list shall be drawn on the basis of performance in the examination.

Merit Calculation

The merit list of successful candidates shall be prepared category-wise in order of merit on the basis of the sum total of marks secured by the candidates in the Written Test and the marks awarded for contractual work experience, if any, as per Odisha Group-C and Group-D Posts (Contractual Appointment) Rules-2013.

District Allotment

District-wise select lists shall be drawn thereafter for each district, as per the vacancies requisitioned. Allotment will be made on the basis of merit and choice/preference of district, as exercised by the candidate in the on-line application.

Result Declaration

The provisional results shall be published in due course in the Commission’s website- www.osssc.gov.in. The result published by the Commission is provisional till verification of bio-data by the Requisitioning Authority/ Appointing Authority and acceptance of candidature. After verification of bio-data, final select list will be published and intimated to the Requisitioning Authority/ Appointing Authority.
