IAF RAGA Preparation Strategy

Mastering the RAGA Section: Strategy & Books

The RAGA (Reasoning and General Awareness) section is often the make-or-break paper for the Medical Assistant trade. Carrying 30 of the 50 total marks, your performance here dictates your final merit ranking. The biggest challenge? You have 45 minutes to solve 50 questions combined, leaving you with less than a minute per question.

1. The 3-Pillar Preparation Strategy

⏱️

Pillar A: Time & Attempt Management

  • The Golden Split: Aim to finish the 20 English questions in 15–18 minutes, leaving you strictly 25–30 minutes for RAGA.
  • The “Skip” Rule: If a reasoning puzzle doesn’t click in 30 seconds, skip it. Negative marking (-0.25) punishes blind guessing.
🧠

Pillar B: Reasoning as the Anchor

  • Non-Verbal Focus: Practice visual reasoning daily (figure series, paper folding) as they rely entirely on pattern recognition speed.
  • Verbal Hotspots: Master Coding-Decoding, Direction Sense, Blood Relations, and Number Series. These appear in every shift.
🌍

Pillar C: Targeted General Awareness

  • Static GK: Focus on “firsts in India,” longest/tallest, capitals, and currencies.
  • Current Affairs: Strictly cover the last 6 months. Focus on Defense exercises, sports, and major awards.
  • Basic Science: Know human diseases, vitamins, SI units, and IT abbreviations.

2. Recommended Booklist

You do not need a massive library. A few focused books, revised multiple times, will yield the best results.
